North East India is a vast area comprising of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. The variations of altitude, diversity of habitat, and extreme precipitation are factors which are responsible for the diversity and abundance of resident birds in this region. The region boasts of varied habitat – wetlands, marsh, grassland, woodland, sub tropical and warm broadleaved forests cool broadleaved forests, coniferous, fir, oak, bamboo, Juniper, Rhododendron, and alpine scrub land, is spread over an accessible altitudinal range of 100m to over 4500m. A string of National parks and Wild Life Sanctuaries enables focused birding. Some of the important birding areas are Kaziranga (Bird list 450), Dibru saikhowa (Bird List 350+), Namdhapa (Bird List 650+), West Arunachal Pradesh (Eagles Nest, Pakke and Dirang-Sela: Bird List 450 +), Manas (Bird list 380) and Nameri (Bird List 350). In addition vast areas remain unexplored, waiting for the intrepid birder. Except for Namdhapa NP, and some remote regions of West Arunachal, all birding areas are accesable by jeep.

Onarrivalat Kolkata our Guide will receive you at the airport. We will spend the morning to look for the Fulvous Whistling Ducks and Swinhoe’s Snipe in Kolkata. Then we will fly same afternoon to Mohanbari Airport at Dibrugarh. If flight is on time we will spend some time at Borajan to see some birds and primates. We will stay at Tinsukia.

India is a country with an unrivalled range of cultures, landscapes and birds to match. From the Himalaya worth the highest mountains in the world to the Jungles and beaches of the south, from the great Thar desert in the west to the wettest place in the northeast- India is truly a land of contrasts which never fails to surprise and fascinate the visitor.

The opportunities for pioneering bird watching are breathtaking! Its avifauna is a unique blend of Indo-Burmese, Sino-Tibetan and Himalayan forms, which thrives in the bio-diverse habitat. Largely unexplored 665 species of birds have been recorded, of which some are exotic – Wards Trogon, White- Winged Wood Duck, Rufus necked hornbill, Blue napped Pitta, Wedge-billed Wren Babbler, snow throated Babbler, and Beautiful Nuthatch. Brown Hornbills may occur here, together with a fabulous list of pheasants, babblers and laughing-thrushes, which include the Arunachal endemic – Austen’s Spotted Babbler.

In 2003, I had operated and guided two short tours on the fringes of the Great Himalayan National Park ( GHNP). This year in compliance with client wishes, Gurudongma organized a 15 days birding trek across the watershed of the Tirthan and Sainj Rivers, for an American couple, in June 2005.. It was a great challenge, as no trip reports of this route were available. Moreover I was busy appearing for my Master of Ecology examination. My Assistant Sudesh Pradhan carried out an exploration, provided the logistics and operated this trip with Norbu, who has been trained by me as a birding guide for Bhutan. The trip operated to the satisfaction of clients, yielding a bird list of 200+. This included Western Tragopan, Monal, Koklass, and Himalayan Snow-cock. As a result of the experience gained, Gurudongma is now offering a 16 days “Pheasants of India birding trek through the GHNP, in June every year.

Camel Safaris take one to an experience of the days gone by when time drifted at a leisurely pace. The rolling landscape of the unrelieved ocean of sand and xerophytic shrub covered area is breathtakingly beautiful and the range of flora and fauna surprisingly large for a desert area.

Rajasthan, India’s westernmost state, is the very essence of exotic India- barren desert and drifting sand dunes. Monotonous and dull- but only at first sight. Step in deeper, and you’ll be overwhelmed by sounds and sights, colours and fragrances which will stay with you long after. The vivid orange and green skirts of local women on the way to a distant well; the bright blue houses of an entire town; the beautifully folksy sound of a village musician playing on a four-stringed sarangi. The aroma of good, home-cooked food, redolent with pure ghee; the comforting warmth of a blazing bonfire on a chill desert night…

The camel breeders of Raika are the best guides. They know every pasture, waterhole and village of the region. One can ride or walk along leisurely with the safari and enjoy the desertscape. The camel carts are fully equipped and tourists need not bother about comfort in the desert.

Most camel safaris can take up to a fortnight though smaller ones are possible too depending on the places you want to see. If you’d rather avoid the oft-done Jodhpur-Bikaner-Jaisalmer route, strike it out among the semi-arid Shekhawati region or even Pokaran.

The Camel Safari Circuit in India comprises of Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner, all in Rajasthan. They were the princely kingdoms in the desert belt of India Rajasthan. Each was comparable in size to many modern nations of Europe. All the former capitals prospered from trade with the camel caravans that traveled from West Asia and Europe to Mongolia, and were impressively fortified to protect these riches. The result was a wealth of palaces built for royalty, havelis or courtyard mansions built for merchants and nobility and intricately carved temples for the subjects. Materials used were normally sandstone, which was easily available and provided a better medium to the silavats who specialized in making stone resemble lace.

Jeep Safari Tours in India are best for Himalayan regions where to pass through twists and turns on every corner and to cross wild rivers are made for adventurous on jeeps. Explore the unknown while admiring the natural beauty at its best on a jeep safari. You can undertake jeeps safari tour to India for destinations like Leh, Ladakh, Kinnaur, Spiti, Manali, Kumaon and Garhwal.

Travel Destinations, the tour guide, provides the outdoor traveler with an opportune moment to have a go at one of the racier and less explored aspects of adventure tourism in India, i.e. jeep safari in India which is definitely tourism with a difference. Jeep safari, a unique aspect of adventure tourism in India is more of a western concept as the fusion of motor and nature is something which is still alien to the psyche of adventure tourism in India.

Ladakh and Leh nestled in the foothills of Himalayas form the favorite hunting grounds for riders participating in jeep safaris in India. Monastery special, Sareolsar lake, Apple belt safari, temple safari and the lake special safaris in the upper reaches of Himalayas are a few of the favorite treks followed by some of the corporate sponsored safaris in India.

You journey through interesting mountain villages and as you cycle through landscapes, you can witness mountain folk and their lifestyles, and feel the music of the mountains waft through.

Jeep safaris are organised in every part of Rajasthan, but safaris organised to the Bishnoi village near Jodhpur have a special attraction for tourists.
