ChandraPrabha Wildlife Sanctuary :India February 15, 2006

Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the northern state of India, Uttar Pradesh. The sanctuary has a number of picnic spots and waterfalls that make it popular among tourists. Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated about 70 kilometres from the historic city of Varanasi. Varanasi is one of the most famous religious centers of Hindus. Chandra Prabha sanctuary is spread over an area of 78 sq km and lies on Naugarh and Vijaigarh hillocks in the Vindhya forest range in Chandauli.

Though a relatively small sanctuary, the Chandra Prabha has more variety per square-kilometre than better-known hotspots. Panthers, chinkaras, sambars, chitals, wild pigs, partridges and peafowl ? enough to send the reptilian corner of your brain looking for its .22. The nearest railhead is Mughal Sarai (55 kms.) and the trip from Varanasi and back can’t be completed in a day. The Forest Rest House at Rajdari Park is perhaps the best option and can be reserved through the Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Division, Ram Nagar, Varanasi.

Varnasi is the most convenient point to travel to Chandra Prabha Sanctuary. The sanctuary is about 55 kilometres from Varanasi. You can hire a taxi from Varanasi and reach the sanctuary. Varanasi is well connected by road and rail transport with other parts of the country. Varanasi has an airport as well.
70 km, Varanasi are the forests of Chandrapha. These forests nestle within them the Rajdari and Devdari waterfalls. A beautiful secluded place for a relaxed outing or a picnic.
