Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary :India February 10, 2006

Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary is open throughout the year, still the ideal visiting months are from August-November for resident breeding birds and October- February for migrant birds. There are well-defined forest trails, which can easily be covered on foot or on a cycle or you can also hire a rickshaw that are available on hire. An early morning boat trip or a late evening one is quite a rewarding experience to check out the hidden surprises of Bharatpur.

The tourists mainly visit the Bird Sanctuary, as it is the second habitat in the world that is visited by the Siberian Cranes in winter. When the rivers of Siberia are frozen due to the extreme winters, the Siberian Cranes visit the sanctuary to spend their winters in India. As soon as the winters are over in Siberia, these huge cranes return to their breeding grounds.

One of the finest bird parks in the world, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana Natiuonal Park) is a reserve that offers protection to faunal species as well. Nesting indigenous water- birds as well as migratory water birds and waterside birds, this sanctuary is also inhabited by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is home to over 400 species of unique, exotic and rare birds that include indigenous as well as migratory water birds including the world-famous Siberian Cranes. The sanctuary also shelters some of the rare and endangered species of birds, making it one of the most inviting destinations in the world for ornithologists and nature lovers.
