Northern Tiger Tours :India February 11, 2006
Morning, combined sightseeing of Old and New Delhi visiting Qutub Minar. India Gate (war memorial), Laxmi Narayan Temple a (modern Hindu temple), drive past President’s estate, Parliament House, Secretariat building, Raj Ghat and Shanti van, the cremation sites of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, Jama Masjid, the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. Overnight at hotel.
A journey into the Ranthambore (also known as Ranthambhore) Sanctuary is an elating experience especially if you are lucky enough to sight the Big Cat. The greatest pulling factor about Ranthambore is the Tiger. The big cat is totally nonchalant about staring humans and there have been enough wildlife movies shot in the place to advertise the fact. But tigers have their moments of privacy and these seem to outweigh those moments when they don’t mind being watched. Ranthambore was among one of the very first sanctuaries to come under the aegis of Project Tiger and from a few dozens the number of tigers have increased to a little over a hundred. Now a national park, it has an area of over 400 square kilometers. Most of the big cats are so secure and protected that they can be seen hunting during the day particularly around the two lakes.
Morning drive to Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan the famous land of kings. Transfer to hotel and lunch, followed by sightseeing of a host of medieval forts and palaces. Not to miss is the incredible 400-year-old Solar Observatory. Next day, drive to Ranthambore, a marvellous wildlife sanctuary, where tigers roam in broad daylight, a gathering of birds adorns the sky and crocodiles crowd watering holes.
Not many people think of going to India for a wildlife holiday, most go for the people and the culture. This trip combines all three. In search of wildlife we will visit Ranthambore Nat. Park, a likely place to find a tiger and also Chitwan Nat. Park in Nepal, where we will take elephants out on safari. For birdlife Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is incomparable. This itinerary also shows you the other aspects of India, its rural, urban and religious life and the masses of history. We will also be privileged to stay at the private home of our great friend and guide Eugene Pram and his family in rural Rajasthan.
